Kate Thorton Design

Kate’s style developed from a love of paper-cutting wildlife silhouettes and incorporating a range of vintage materials & old maps she inherited from her Grandfather. She aslo works in drawing, printmaking and digital design to produce print and stationery collections.

“I’m a keen birder and love the outdoors so I’m instinctively drawn to shapes and outlines in nature. The joining together of vintage materials, pops of colour and a simple graphic style creates contemporary work that has both historic and personal connection. A connection made between people, place and natural landscapes in the use of old maps - I love creating work that has meaning for people - work that connects people with a landscape and its wildlife either experienced and remembered, lived in or dreamed about!”

Kate studied at Leeds College of Art and Design before completing a Fine Art degree at Nottingham Trent University in 2005. She works from her studio in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

 

Kate Thornton is a Yorkshire artist sharing her love of the natural world, particularly British birds through beautifully simple collections of greetings cards and prints.
